Happy New Year!

It's a lil chilly! ;-)

Happy New Year everyone!!  Wooooo!! 2012 is HERE and so are we!  I’m glad a new year has begun.  I never got used to writing 2011 on things, anyway.  I was still writing 2010.  I blame college.  Since then, I’ve never really had to write the date on anything.  ha.  Perhaps 2012 will be easier to remember.

I decided I was gonna go to Negril to celebrate yet another start to a year.  Negril is close to Sav, so I stayed with Malley (same place I stayed for the Reggae Marathon).  It ended up being me, Malley, Chris, Kelsey, and Mark (Kelsey and Mark are dating).  Just five PCVs looking to enjoy each other’s company and have a great time.  And that is EXACTLY what we did!  NOTHING got in our way!  We were on fire all night.  Ha.  We started the night out chillin at Malley’s playing beer pong.  Yeah, that’s right.  Saw some ping pong balls at the pharmacy, so immediately thought, “Dude, we should totally play beer pong tonight.”  Malley and I DESTROYED Chris and Mark.  One would say we’re undefeated; 4 cups to 1 baby (they got a lil lucky towards the end).

We headed out around 9:30pm, hit Negril round 10ish, chatted to Jenny and her boyfriend for a bit (Another PCV that lives in Hanover), then decided we wanted a drink or two before the New Year began, so we dipped and went to this club called, “The Jungle.”  It was pretty tight.  Drink of choice for the night Magnum.  It’s this “toxic wine” that tastes exactly like cherry cough syrup.  Not too bad.  It’s cheap, and gets yuh drunk faster. ;-)  I know I said no more drinking, but as you recall, I changed it.  No more out of hand drinking.  I am learning to control myself.  Back to the story.

It’s nearing 12am, and nobody is at the club yet (cuz J’cans don’t get to parties until like 1-2am), so we decided to hit the street to see if we could see fireworks that we heard about.  Well, the fireworks came about 15-20mins AFTER midnight.  Really, Jamrock?  You can’t even get your fireworks off on time?  LOL  OKAY.  We couldn’t even see them, anyway.  We also missed the countdown.  Apparently counting down was NOT a priority of the people on the street.  We tried to countdown, but Malley couldn’t figure out her countdown thing on her phone, so we just saw our clocks hit 12am, then toasted it up!

Chilled for a bit, then entered the Jungle again, where were started the dance party.  5 Whiteys, full of alcohol, and good dance music, we’re gonna dance!  EVERYONE was staring at us on the dance floor; Jamaicans AND tourists.  Ha.. it was great.  We had no care in the world.  We were having a great time dancing as if nobody was staring at us.  I think it was when the DJ played some J’can music and we all started singing the words when people realized we weren’t tourist. ha.. He kept playin some Dance Hall music, and people appeared around the border of the dance floor.  Eventually, people gave in (or got more drunk), and started dancing.  Yay! Leave it to 5 crazy whiteys to start the dance party!  My Valpo Loves would have been proud. :-)

Well… here’s to a new year!  I can no longer say, I will be here for 2 years.  Well, I will be, but saying 2013 when it’s 2012 seems shorter than when it’s 2011.  Ha.  Anyone got any New Year’s Resolutions they plan on keeping?  Mine: “Get fit and Stay Fit.”  I’m gonna make it happen, too.  I’m stoked.  I’m gonna learn how to eat healthier, too!  Wooo!!  I’m super stoked for this year!

It's a lil chilly! ;-)
