Introducing…MAX

Who is Max?  Max is not my newest lizard friend, nor is she a pet fish.  Max is my new puppy!   Last Thursday morning (January 12), I was walking to Tamor’s house when I stumbled upon this litter of female puppies!  This was totally destiny.  I was talkin to my friend Andy a week earlier about how I wanted a puppy, but didn’t want to purchase one.  Little did I know that God would send me a while litter to choose from. :-)  Unfortunately I could not take them all.   I guess what happens is when a dog has puppies, the owner will throw all the females onto the road.  This way, if the dogs eventually get preggers, they don’t have to deal with it.  Also, they won’t have to take care of half the pups this way either.  So as soon as they can be taken from the mom, the owner dashes them away to the roadside to fend for themselves.

As I walk up, I see these two ladies with puppies swarming their feet.  I couldn’t have been happier.  I picked one up and fell in love with her eyes.  Sooo cute (check the pics below).  I put her down, just to test and see if she would continue to follow me, and she did, along with others.  Teehee.  When I got to Tamor’s I had to ask that she (errr her parent’s) look after the pup while I go run errands for Tamor and myself (was on my way out to Junction when found the puppies).  They were so kind to watch over her while I went out, thankfully.

When I reached back home, I gave the pup 3 baths in a row.  I already had some doggie shampoo from when I bathed Rambo, so I was able to use that and still have much left over.  The darn pup was covered in fleas, poor thing.  :-(  The next day I got some flea powder, and powdered her.  Gave her a bath again a few days later followed by some more powdering.  She’s definitely clean!  Ha.

I give her daily checks now.  The past 2 days I have yet to find a fea! :-)  Perhaps next week I will allow her to be inside.  I need to find a makeshift bed for her, though; like a lil spot for her to go to in the house.  Perhaps I’ll buy another pillow and she can use the feather pillow that kills my neck.   Yeah, things for a dog to be inside, don’t exactly exist in Jamaica.  In fact, dogs as pets is a new idea to Jamaicans.  Pickney still throw stones at stray dogs, as if being a stray isn’t hard enough (no family to love you), they have to worry about stupid pickney throwing stones at them for no reason at all.  I think the only things I’ve seen dog “pet” related are dog food, shampoo, some snacks, and nail clippers.  I have only bought nail clippers.  Food… she’s gonna grow up a Jamaican dog and eat scraps.  I don’t have the money to be feeding two mouths (not that she eats a ton), but I also have nowhere to store the food that ants won’t attack it.  We’ll see.

Anyway, she is super obedient and a quick learner, at that!  It only took her one day to learn that she’s not allowed into the house.  Although when trying to cross the doorway, she scrambles, entering with her butt first [knowing that I will smack it from coming in].  It’s super adorable, though.  Most the time I pick her up and toss her away towards her box.   Oh, I keep her on my veranda in a box.  I knew that keeping that huge box my dad used to send my first package in would be useful someday (other than just using it as foot stool).

So the name.  I’ve always been a fan of boy names for girls; ie Joey, Jordan, Ryan, etc…  Her name is also inspired by a TV show entitled Dark Angel.   The main character’s name is Max.  She is a genetically engineered killing machine designed to be the perfect soldier.  Max is kick ass, has super strength, and can easily clear a 10 foot fence.  After I named her Max, I saw her leap some impressive heights for her small maga self, and thought to myself, “yup, totally appropriate name.”  :-)

Well I’ve blabbed about my darling dear for a bit now.  I will show you some pics.  :-) Oh and as far as what happens at the end of my service… ideally, she comes home with me, but we’ll play it all by ear.  Also, I have no clue of what breed of dog she is, so if anyone is a dog expert, mind sharing info?  Thanks.
